Dr. Peeyush Varshney

Dr. Piyush did his masters from SMS Medical College, Jaipur. Subsequently, pursued MCh from SGPGIMS, Lucknow. Currently working as a Faculty at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jodhpur in the Dept of Surgical Gastroenterology and Liver Transplant having 4 years of clinical and teaching experience after completing liver transplant training from CLBS, Max Saket, New Delhi. Observership at ILBS New Delhi in Liver Transplant Surgery for 5 weeks. Deep interest in HPB surgery and liver transplant. Published twenty-five research papers in various indexed journals. Presented several papers at different national and international conference. Motivated and striving hard to take Liver Transplant program ahead at AIIMS Jodhpur. Was awarded with Best Senior Resident during MCh at SGPGIMS, Lucknow in 2017. Won Young Investigator Award at KDDW 2017 (Seoul, South Korea).

Dr. Amay Banker

Growing up in a family of doctors in Ahmedabad, Amay Banker's fascination with the field of surgery developed from a young age. He began his medical journey from BJ Medical College, Ahmedabad and subsequently pursued a general surgery residency at King Edward Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. After developing a keen interest in HPB surgery and liver transplantation, he proceeded to join one of Western India's largest living donor liver transplant program at HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai. To gain further exposure to the latest advances in the field, particularly in DCD transplantation and machine perfusion techniques, he then pursued a four month research program at the University of Pennsylvania as a visiting fellow. Presently he is hoping to secure a LTSI Surgical Fellowship to further his understanding of deceased donor liver transplantation and paediatric transplantation to fulfil his goal to become a well rounded liver transplant surgeon.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Objectives

The main objectives of these fellowships are to:

Facilitate the national exchange and development of technical knowledge and skills in transplantation for LTSI fellows and young faculty.

Build capacity of the individual and the home organization through the effective application and dissemination of the newly acquired skills

Support the development of mentor networks of professionals working in liver transplantation for the continued sharing of best practices and knowledge, and the informal provision of ongoing support, guidance or training.

Eligibility criteria

• The applicant must be an LTSI member in good standing and a resident of India

• The applicant must be a registered fellow in training in liver transplantation or a young faculty (within 5 years of completion of training)

• The duration of a fellowship can be between six and eight weeks. Applications for fellowships with shorter or longer durations are not eligible.

• Projects with start dates commencing earlier than 90 days after the submission deadline are not eligible.

• The candidate must be an employee i.e. on the payroll of a relevant institution, such as university, research laboratory or institute, hospital, where they will return at the end of a fellowship.

• Candidates attached to commercial entities, or those associated to the tobacco, alcohol or arms industries are not eligible to apply.

• Only one fellowship can be applied to at a time.

• Candidates who have already obtained an LTSI fellowship in the past may not apply.

Finding a host supervisor and institution

It is the responsibility of the applicant to identify a suitable host supervisor, to make contact with them and obtain their agreement to host and mentor them for the duration of the fellowship visit. An invitation letter from the host supervisor signed by them must be uploaded as part of the application.

Online application

Applicants must submit their applications online, and home and host supervisors are also required to confirm their approval of the fellowship visit.

Application Review Process

• Eligible applications are evaluated by members of an independent expert selection committee according to a peer-review process.

• There will be four awards per year; two given every six months

• The awards application will be announced on August 15 and January 1. Candidates can apply up to one month after the announcement.

• Two or three reviewers will carry out the evaluation of each application.

• Applicants will be informed of the final decision within 90 days of the submission deadline.

Topic:

Select your project topic

This is the most important component of your application. It should be prepared by yourself and be approved by your home and host supervisors. It should include sufficient details to allow peer reviewers to evaluate its quality, timeliness, and relevance.

Purpose:

Include specific objectives that you want to achieve as a result of your fellowship visit.

Background:

Provide a summary of the current status of your training relation to your project focus, and describe how this fellowship is relevant, and will support progress in this area, within your local context, institution.

Detailed work plan:

Please provide details of how the specific objectives will be achieved. You should include at least four paragraphs of text in complete sentences where you describe in detail your planned activities during your proposed visit. Please confer with your host supervisor to agree on the workplan.

Expected transferable skills:

Please provide details of the specific skills or new knowledge that will be gained during your visit.

Facilities in your institution:

Please describe if the infrastructure of your home institution will allow you to implement the skills and knowledge learned during your visit, and to disseminate these with relevant individuals.

Successful applicants will be asked to submit a completion report within six weeks of completion of the fellowship.
