Eligibility and Selection: Qualifications and Application Process

  • Candidate Requirements:
    • Applicants must hold a recognized medical degree (as listed in the WHO directory of medical schools).
    • All candidates must be registered to practice medicine in India. Foreign graduates must maintain registration with the MCI throughout the training.
    • Candidates should have completed broad-based general surgical training, including:
      • An MS/DNB in General Surgery; and
      • At least three years of higher surgical training (e.g., MCh/DNB in GI Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Pediatric Surgery, or equivalent experience as a senior resident or junior faculty with exposure to gastrointestinal/HPB/Transplant Surgery).
  • Training Exposure:
    • The fellowship training involves rotations through OPD, ICU, wards, and theatre.
    • Trainees must experience both DDLT and LDLT, along with pediatric and adult liver transplantation. In centers lacking certain exposure, additional postings (within India or abroad) are required.
  • Additional Postings:
    • Transplant Hepatology – 2 weeks
    • Transplant Anaesthesia
    • Transplant Endoscopy & Diagnostic/Interventional Radiology – 2 weeks
    • Liver Pathology – 2 weeks
    • Infectious Disease – 2 weeks
    • Transplant ICU – 4 weeks
    • External posting at another accredited center for 2 weeks (or at an agreed international center)
  • Academic Requirements:
  • Fellows must participate in academic activities (seminars, journal clubs, case presentations) and maintain a comprehensive (or electronic) logbook of clinical and academic activities.
  • Examination Fee:
    • Candidates are required to pay Rs. 20,000 to LTSI for the Exit Examination and certification process.
